A full-day tour of old Dhaka is unique, fun, and a bit of a mixture of adventure. Bangladesh is a country immersed in history, culture, and tradition, kind and hospitable. Dhaka City Tour is to show, explain, and illuminate these aspects to you.  We don't do the usual tourist routes and few particular places of attractions, instead, we will take you through backstreets and side roads to reveal the little hidden communities where the traditional lifestyle is still practiced particularly in the old Dhaka at Shakhari bazar and some well-known places in old Dhaka like Bongshal, and Nawabpur, etc.

Pick up

Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel/residence. During the working day, we pick up our guests a bit early at 8 am but on the weekend Friday/Saturday or on any govt. holiday we pick you up at 9.00 am. Our car will be heading toward the National Parliament building just after picking you up from your location. 

 

National Parliament Building

Visit outside of the National Assembly Building (Parliament Building) which is one of the largest legislative buildings in the world and the finest piece of architecture in Dhaka, designed by world-famous US architect Louis Kahn. For its blending of modernism and context, symbolic importance, and the geometric forms that the building It is one of the architectural masterpieces of modern days as considered one of Kahn's greatest works and a milestone in 20th-century architecture because of its monumental scale. This magnificent architecture is famous for the composition of simple geometric shapes, which creates a harmonious composition and got the recognition of the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1989.

 

Dhaka university

Visit the Dhaka University area including Curzon hall, TSC, Central Shahid Minar, and round within the Dhaka University perimeter. Among them Curzon Hall is the most beautiful one because of the great mixture of European and Mughal styles as the British Crown, Curzon Hall has one of the best structural designs in Dhaka. It has got the Mughal symbolic forms which have arches and domes. It has got an interesting historical background in that till 1911 the building was used by Dhaka College. But after Dhaka University was established in 1921, the hall was taken by the University and still is being used for education purposes by the university. Now it is one of the tourist places in the country and it fascinates people at home and abroad.

Visiting Sadarghat (River Station)

Continue driving to Sadarghat River Station. This is the main river port in Dhaka and one of the largest river stations in South Asia. Sadarghat is used by hundreds of small boats and gigantic overnight passenger ferries mainly for communication with the southern districts of the country. Also, Cargo barges use Sadarghat as a loading and unloading point. This bustling place has become a large daily market for fruits, vegetables, and miscellaneous items carried to and from different parts of Bangladesh. Numerous retail and wholesale shops can be found on both sides of the road which makes this place must must-visit place for visitors. 

Fascinating Boat Ride at Sadarghat.

Enjoy a boat ride on a rowboat at Dhaka’s busy Buriganga river. This river is an alive and vibrant place full of activities. You’ll see hundreds of rowboats crossing people in two sides of the river, small vendors selling goods on their boats, and passenger and cargo ferries passing by. Ahsan Manjil (Pink Palace)

Visit Ahsan Manzil (Pink Palace) – a beautiful and well-maintained palace from the colonial period which was home to the most influential family in Dhaka. This is another popular tourist place in Dhaka city.

Walking in the Famous Hindu Street. (Shankharia Bazar)

Walk on Hindu Street (Shankharia Bazar). This is a unique street – the center of Hindu culture and community in Old Dhaka. Old buildings on both sides of the street, which is full of jewelry shops, local musical instrument shops, Hindu bridal shops, kite shops, cookery shops, temples, rickshaws, and people continue walking till the end Tati Bazar.

Rickshaw Ride, Star Mosque, Armenian Church.

Take a rickshaw and visit star mosque a beautiful mosque fully decorated with star motifs, and Armenian Church an orthodox church built by Armenians in Dhaka.

Heading to Bongshal (bicycle street)

From the star mosque, we will start walking or taking a rickshaw to come to Bonglshal.

Lunch Break (Experience local authentic food)

Lunch in a local restaurant with some popular Bangladeshi food

Heading to Lalbagh fort (Signe of Mughal period)

After lunch, we will head toward Lalbagh fort beautiful fort from the Mughal period, a key tourist attraction in Dhaka city.

Dhakeshary Temple visit.

After Lalbagh fort we will visit Dhakeshary temple

End of the tour.

What to ware ?

To show respect to the religious places, You are requested to wear modest clothes to enter the mosques included on the tour. It is not possible to visit mosques wearing shorts. Women need to cover hair and arms. Also need to leave your shoes outside while visiting a mosque or a temple.

Pick-up time

Pick-up time will be 9.00 am during Fridays, Saturdays, and other govt. holidays, as there would be less traffic on the streets during these days. For hotels in southern part of Dhaka city, pickup time will always be at 9.00 am.

Regarding Meals.

Lunch will be served at local restaurant to have a test of our local food. In the old Dhaka there are wide range of local food offered amongst Biriani is one of the top rated foods that tourists like to have but you will be offered other type of food also. 

Opening and Closing time

Ahsan Manzil will be closed on Thursdays and opens after 03.00 pm on Fridays. Lalbagh Fort will be closed on Sundays, and opens after 02.00 pm on Mondays. Rest of the sites are open seven days a week.On any government holidays  Ahsan Manzil and Lalbagh Fort will be closed. However, you can visit them from outside though during these days.

Walking at Old Dhaka

You need to be prepared mentally to walk a lot because of being stopped on the same place for a long time without even moving due to the incredible traffic in Dhaka when everything stops in every intersection. And wear shoes accordingly.

Taking pictures

In general, people like to be in the frame of foreigners even sometimes feel very proud to be captured and give a willing pose in front of the camera which you will not find anywhere in the world. However, it is better to take permission before taking any pictures especially of any young girls, soldiers and tribal people.
